The Guardian Service was established in 2013.
The Guardian Service was established in 2013. We are the only independent and confidential staff liaison service for NHS employees. The service was created by Ashley Brooks, the National Patient Champion in response to the Francis investigation into Mid Staffordshire and subsequent reports in 2013 and 2015. Francis stated, “Voices of staff were largely ignored” and NHS staff have found in reporting issues that their concerns can be ignored, dismissed or not acted upon in a timely manner. The Guardian Service was set up to fill a much-needed gap for both NHS organisations and staff by providing a confidential reporting liaison service covering patient care and safety, whistle blowing, harassment, bullying, and work grievances. It was not until two years later in 2015 that the NHS mandated all NHS Trusts to appoint a Guardian.
The service was initially piloted at Barking. Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. We continue to provide the service to the 6,500 plus staff at BHRUT. In 2015, we secured our first private Healthcare organization when St Joseph’s Hospice became a client. We continue to grow our client base year to year and today support in excess of 40,000 NHS staff at
Trusts country wide.
In 2016, we moved into our central London office on Grey's Inn Road, close to Chancery Lane Tube Station.
