The confidential staff liaison service
The Guardian Service is about patient care, supporting staff and raising professional standards...
The Guardian Service is an independent and confidential service originally established to support NHS employees at all levels and in all roles. It is here for you to discuss any concern or issue you may have relating to patient care, patient safety or work related concerns.
The Guardian Service was set up in response to The Francis report that stated "Voices of staff were largely ignored" and that NHS staff had found when reporting issues that their concerns could be ignored, dismissed and not acted upon in a timely manner.
We now offer this service to the broader public sector and the private sector.
Helping NHS Staff
The service provides information and emotional support in a strictly confidential, non-judgemental manner and in an off the record discussion. The one-to-one nature of the service is a fundamental foundation of the service providing personal contact in contrast to an online, email or drop box approach.
For many individuals the opportunity to speak about their concerns in a safe environment with a neutral and understanding person can be an end in itself. Experience to date has demonstrated that the initial subject matter raised by an individual is often a symptom of a deeper held concern. The role of a Guardian in surfacing these deeper held issues is critical and supports the individual to rationalise their concerns to a point where they can self-determine the best course of action, with or without the ongoing support of the Guardian.
The Guardian Service covers a wide range of issues relating to patient care, patient safety and work related concerns
